The ECS¹ is now in Phase B, Concepting & Definition. The ECS is a modular system the PSEMU² will use for connecting mission specific hardware. Ceres program will take humans into varied unexplored terrains, each mission will have its own specific hardware to provide life support and mission functionality for the astronauts.
The ECS is an external harness that is completely separate from the PSEMU, it has attachment points for one backpack, a front pack and two side pouches.
Connectors
The front and back pack are connected using a robust quick release system designed by Austrialpin. These connectors are easy to connect and disconnect and can stand up to 18kN³ (1835 kilograms) of force before disassembling involuntarily.
Extra Capacity
Spacesuits do not necessarily have pockets, but sometimes it can be beneficial to have a way to attach extra tools to the suits, so the astronaut has their hands free while navigating or interfacing with tools. The ECS can accommodate extra attachments to stow equipment.
