The production of the PSEMU¹ will start at the bottom then go to the upper parts of the assembly. The researchers at Ceres program are currently designing the pants assembly and are checking what systems are needed in order to produce them.
Pants Assembly
The pants of the PSEMU feature integrated boots and convolute joints at the knees. The suit will be optimised for mobility because it is going to be used in many different environments. The astronauts will have to traverse different types of terrain with different levels of gravity.
Integrated Boots
The boots are integrated into the pants assembly for optimum protection, it ensures the protective layers around the lower legs never have to be separated from the PSEMU.
Footprint
The engineers are now testing different types of sole designs. The soles of the boot assembly need ribs to increase thermal insulation qualities, to provide lateral and torsional rigidity, and to provide traction on the ground surface.
